A New Era of Gathering

After what felt like an eternal winter, spring has arrived along with feelings of a brighter future - one that includes events! In-person events have been reimagined, as have our priorities about them. Here’s my take on several shifts to expect when it comes to event design and planning as we enter into a new era of gathering.

Quality > Quantity

This has never been more prevalent in the event world, as can be seen by the high volume of micro-weddings and intimate gatherings throughout the past year. Fewer guests allow for a more elevated and personalized experience for those attending. Although large events will return, luxurious intimate gatherings have carved out a permanent place of their own.

Year-Round Outdoor Entertaining

For many, gathering outdoors will continue to be a preference throughout all seasons; think gardens, vineyards and rooftops. Event design will focus on blending what we love most about outdoor and indoor entertaining. An abundance of heaters, tenting and thoughtful details like throw blankets for guests when outdoors; and utilizing florals, lighting and an open floor plan when indoors.

Destination...Everything

After more than a year of little-to-no travel, expect destination weddings, anniversaries and other milestone events to be on the rise once it’s safe to do so. They not only serve as a celebration, but double as an opportunity for you and your guests to finally travel again!

Pre-Plated Menus

I have to admit, I'm not terribly upset about bidding farewell to the buffet. With hygiene at the forefront of all in-person gatherings, plated table-side service is here to stay along with passed hors d’oeuvres served in their own vessel. Expect to see more meals served in beautifully packaged picnic baskets and bento-boxes.

Private Dining

A favorite amongst corporate clients will now be even more in demand for social gatherings, especially in the autumn and winter months. We’ve all been anxiously waiting to return to our neighborhood bars, lounges and restaurants, and private dining spaces provide an elevated experience for celebratory events.
